February 2023 – Where are we now?

On 24th December 2022 – Our last day of trading at Langfords Patisserie. Over the next 3 1/2 weeks the shop was thoroughly cleaned, personal and cake decorating items were removed, we donated thousands of dollars of food to charities, staff, family and friends. Basically, anything that was perishable was donated.

On 18th January 2023 – We took the caravan into Crusader Melbourne for service, warranty repairs and some modifications then headed off to Stawell for a 4 day (3nights) break and to catch up with my chiropractor for a well deserve adjustment. The caravan was to take roughly 1 to 2 weeks for all the repairs to be completed and meanwhile we would stay with one of my sons in Mooroolbark after our break.

On 21st January 2023 – We returned from Stawell after also spending time at Halls Gap sightseeing and having a bit of a walk around trying to get in the motions of retirement life. Not without its stresses as from the time we dropped off the caravan to the time we left Stawell we had constant phone calls regarding issues with the new owners and the settlement, which was to be on Monday 23rd January 2023. Not much we could do when we were so far away and the new owners had left everything to the last minute.

On 23rd January 2023 – Settlement Day had arrived. Now we were disappointed but not surprised that it did not happen as we had so much trouble with new owners from the day, they made the offer. Eventually on Tuesday 24th January 2023 settlement was done, but again not in its entirety as the social media accounts being Facebook and Instagram had difficulties getting handed over. The new owners did not get our name but wanted the followers on our accounts. I still do not understand completely as they were not running it as the same business model so to me it seemed a bit deceptive, and we only hoped that they removed all our photos so customers would not think that our work is what they now supply. Perhaps this is the norm these days, I’m still stuck on why. Just my personal opinion.

On 11th February 2023 – The new owners finally took possession of the social media accounts and then on 18th February 2023 we finally could put this all to rest. The business had finally been transferred in full and we had finally been paid all of our funds from the sale. I would say that this whole ordeal with the sale of the shop turned me off ever wanting a hospitality business again.

February 2023 – So for the month of February we organized for all the medical appointments, made sure we got our hair done, attended a wedding, socialized, rested as much as possible (getting use to being a couch potato…lol) did some change of addresses, making phone calls, getting modifications to the car (protective coating, roof rack, weather shields and a few maintenance/repairs), sorting through personal stuff and getting rid of things, buying things for the travel and tying up loose ends. Unfortunately, it has been just over 5 weeks since we dropped of the caravan, and we still do not have it back. 😒 That will be in another blog.

Wow! What a lot of messing around to get where you are today. A nuisance with the caravan being held up like that but we are hearing that happening all over with all brands of vans. We just had ours serviced but there weren’t any issues so we haven’t had to wait. We are hoping to do a 2 week trip to South Australia after Easter. Enjoy retirement – you will love it.

    1. Hi Glenda,
South Australia is definitely on our list to travel. Hoping to get the caravan back in the next week or so, but are not holding our breath. Looking forward to taking off on our journey and catching up with people on our travels.
