Equipment & Safety

Safety – For our safety we have made a few choices, some simple and some costly. We chose to do a caravan towing course which I highly recommend for everyone and for any one that is travelling and that has a licence that is towing anything.

Car – We chose to get a white car because they stand out more in the dark and show less scratches. The car is equipped with CB radio (areal), fire hydrant, fire blanket & first aid kit along with portable flashing emergency lights that magnetically attach to the car or caravan.

Caravan – equipped with alarm system, Enerdrive battery, Ci-Fi booster, fire hydrant, fire blanket, fire and gas detectors.

Money – We always carry small amounts of cash on us, not worth anyone’s time in robbing us for it but enough to put a few gold coins in a donation box or pay for a low cost camping site. The remainder of our money is either locked away in investments or the money that we do have for our yearly travel is in bank accounts, yes plural. We keep a little amount of money in our account that has cards attached incase of loss or stolen card and we tend not to need a lot of money at one time anyway. We also made sure that both of us has access to all accounts.

Insurance – This is a costly one. We have car insurance (it does not cover your caravan), caravan insurance (watch this as they cap the contents), contents insurance, life insurance.

Roadside Assist – We have RACV total care.

Names, passwords & wills – This may seem a small detail, but not if something happens to the other person. Try getting access to a bank account that is not in your name. In case of emergency we have put both our names on everything, every bank account, every bill, every policy so if something happens to the other person in the case of sickness, a family emergency where the other has to travel separately or death the other person can access everything from the money to the bills without any issues. Also we both have all the passwords and account numbers to every account we have, policy we have and bill we need to pay. There is no easy way to say this but if you look at this as “in the worst-case scenario” your partner or family have enough to grieve about so this helps give them peace of mind knowing your affairs are in order. Make sure that your will is up-to-date or that you have one.
